Intro

Harborne is a thriving and prosperous Victorian suburb with a large stock of housing dating from pre-1900 found mainly around the High Street, and the early 20th century. The oldest part of what is known locally as 'Harborne Village' is centred on St Peter's Church, Church of England, Old Church Road, which dates from Anglo-Saxon times. There is also some evidence of a Roman fort around the Queen Elizabeth Hospital Birmingham and Metchley Park, near Harborne. The earliest written mention of Harborne is an entry in the Domesday Book of 1086, however the settlement pre-dates this.

Birmingham is the 2nd city of the UK, boasting a population close to 1.2million, most would consider Harborne to be the most prestigious areas of Birmingham as it can offer the residents everything that one would need especially appealing to professionals, first-time buyers and families. Nestled 3 miles away from chaos of the City Centre and yet easily accessible via excellent transport links. “Harbornites” have an abundance of amenities on their doorstep, with a range of bars, restaurants and shops found on the High Street; not only comprising of boutiques and independent retailers but also some of the larger names including Marks & Spencer and Waitrose. Harborne also hosts the regional home of the Open University here in addition to supporting many of the students and staff based at both the nearby University of Birmingham and the extremely well-regarded Queen Elizabeth teaching hospital.

Just a stone’s throw from Birmingham City Centre, Harborne offers a surprising blend of high-end retailers, one carrying the Royal Warrant. Wonderfully eclectic charity shops sit comfortably alongside with top-class jewellers and gift shops, whilst cafes and eateries provide welcome relief for the exhausted shopper

Sports & Leisure

There is a well-established sporting presence in Harborne, with thriving local cricket, rugby, hockey, tennis and golf clubs to name but a few. The £12m Harborne Swimming Pool and Complex has just reopened providing state of the art pool and leisure facilities. The village centre is also the perfect place to pamper yourself; with well-established and successful salons offering a range of services from a new hairstyle to extensive beauty and body therapies.

Eating & drinking

Harborne has a thriving restaurant scene, including a Michelin-starred restaurant Turners – making it the perfect place for an evening out and a real alternative to the city centre. If the hustle and bustle of the city doesn’t entice you then Harborne will, with a number of popular Gastro Pubs with late licences it gives Harborne the business it needs. Customers will come from all over Birmingham to eat and drink morning, afternoon and evening. 

Location

Central Harborne is situated on the B4124 High Street just 3 miles from the centre of Birmingham. Nearby is the Queen Elizabeth Hospital and Birmingham University which supply a constant stream of buyers and tenants looking to get a part of the “Harborne Life” in addition to this a number of the primary schools in Harborne are considered outstanding to good by Ofsted; Harborne Primary School, St Mary's Catholic Primary School, St Peters CofE Primary and Chad Vale Primary School. With such good schools in the area and places at a premium the knock on affect is driving up the house prices in Harborne. Not so good for first time buyers, but for owners looking to sell it can be rather encouraging for them.  The buoyant market has only increased in recent years and buyers and renters will pay a premium to be in such a sought after & desirable area.

By Bus

Harborne is very well served by bus services, with the 10h, 11 Outer Circle, 22, 23, 24, 29, 448, 448a & 636 services providing regular and reliable access to the village. The MECS office is served by all of the above bus services.

By Train

The nearest train station to Harborne centre is the University station situated 15 minutes' walk away on the edge of the University of Birmingham campus.
